What is The Food Bank?
The Food Bank is a ground-breaking concept designed to help individuals and families in crisis by providing free emergency food until such time as the appropriate agencies are in a position to assist. This project, pioneered by the Trussell Trust, has been operatiing in Salisbury for six years, helping thousands of people in need. Our aim is to emulate the success of the Salisbury Food Bank, here in Worthing, providing practical help and a caring response for those in our own community.
In a nutshell The Food Bank is a straightforward system of collection, collation and distribution of basic food items to support people at times of crisis.
The Food Bank will offer a temporary, practical, stop-gap. It can also be a used as a catalyst for getting to grips with fundamental challenges that overwhelm people.
The Food Bank collects a variety of tinned and dried foods through supermarkets, organisations, churches and individuals.
The Food Bank exchanges Food Vouchers for enough food for 3 days at the Salvation Army Centre in Worthing.
The Food Bank packs 3-day Emergency Food Boxes (EFBs) for distribution to single people or families.
The Food Bank offers support services – providing advocacy, counselling, and a helping hand. |
